Infant Car Seat/Carrier
A car seat/carrier should be the first item on your registry. Your will need a car seat to leave the hospital (it's the law). The carrier aspect involves a sturdy handle that lets you move your sleeping baby from the car or stroller to the house without stirring. In choosing the right car seat for your family, compare the weight of the models, comfort features and styling.

The Graco SnugRide is a solid choice for safety, convenience and value. The SnugRide is consistently a favorite of consumer groups for its safety standards -- the most important feature of any infant car seat. It is also among the lightest (7.5 lbs) and is compatible with a variety of strollers. However, it's less plush looking than pricier options and some of the design offerings could be cooler, although the solid colors are fine. Graco offers a range of styles and features between $90 and $150, making the SnugRide an excellent value. Select a model with Gracopedic foam for extra comfort. The SnugRide is designed to fit the Graco SnugRider stroller base and the SnugGlider swing.

The Mico's styling and colors makes it a standout, as do clever design elements like a tuck away canopy with see-through side panels. At 8 pounds, it is only slightly heavier than the Graco SnugRide (7.5 lbs), making it a good portable option. The Quinny Buzz stroller is compatible only with the Mico, so if you choose the Buzz, this should be your car seat.

The Primo Viaggio is incredibly sturdy, well-designed and stylish. However, it is also very heavy (at 10.8 lbs, more than 3 lbs heavier than the Graco Snugride), not to mention pricey. If you plan to move it frequently from stroller to car and up and down stairs, think twice. On the other hand, if it will stay put in your car, this is an excellent choice.
