Infant Swing

The infant swing -- babies seem to either love it or hate it. Borrow one to test drive if you can. If your baby loves the swing, it will become a sure-fire, indispensable soothing device. If your baby hates it, forget about it -- the swinging sensation is simply too intense for many little ones. "Travel" swings take up substantially less floor space and are half the price of traditional swings but have less swinging power, which means they are outgrown more quickly.

Graco SnugGlider
Graco SnugGlider

$50

The SnugGlider incorporates the Graco car seat, which hangs from this lightweight, easy-to-store frame. Just like a traditional swing, it has multiple speed settings, music and sounds. Makes for an easy transition from napping in the car to napping at home.

Boppy Rock in Comfort
Boppy Rock in Comfort

$65

The Boppy Rock in Comfort takes up little floor space and has a particularly snuggly reclining seat, perfect for napping. However, it is outgrown quickly and reportedly goes through batteries faster than other swings.

Graco Lovin' Hug Swing
Graco Lovin' Hug Swing

$90

With a name like "Lovin' Hug," it has to be good to make our list. With a powerful motor and comfortable reclining seat, this swing will hold an infant up to 30 lbs. If you can't find a fabric style that works, take a look at the more contemporary Graco Silhouette, which costs $40-$50 more.

Graco Silhouette Swing
Graco Silhouette Swing

$120

The Graco Silhouette, like the Lovin' Hug, is a powerful full-sized swing that can be used beyond the first several months. The Silhouette offers more modern styling and fabric choices (and a better name) than the Lovin' Hug, but for $40-$50 more.
