Bodysuits ("Onesies")

Bodysuits, or "onesies," provide an extra layer of warmth or, for summer babies, may be all that's needed some days. A kimono-style t-shirt that snaps in front is a good starter shirt for new parents. Once you feel comfortable pulling clothing over your baby's head, move on to the bodysuit-type onesie, a wardrobe staple.

Footed Sleepers

For the first month or so, your baby will be most comfortable in footed "sleepers" -- a one-piece outfit that covers the feet. Easy to put on and remove for diaper changes, and with no elastic around the waist to irritate the healing umbilical area. For most babies, the three-month size (0-3 months) is the place to start, in fleece for the winter, cotton for warmer months and terry for everything in between. We prefer sleepers to "gowns," which are difficult to pull on and ride up.
